Reaching goals in 2011 with over $50,000 raised for the Strong Kids Campaign

Thanks to the generous contributions of the Spencer residents, the Owen County Family YMCA’s annual Strong Kids campaign raised over $50,000 to provide financial assistance to help those seeking better health and well-being in our community. Gifts to the OCF YMCA stay in the community, directly supporting services and programs that have a positive impact on residents right here in Owen County.

“Many people in our community rely on the essential services and programs the Y offers,” stated Connie Kay, Interim CEO. “But we would not be here to serve our neighbors without the support we receive from our members, volunteers, staff, partners and our community at-large. Their support enables us to not only continue with the work we already do, but help expand our reach to more people in need.”

While in the process of finalizing the completion of the annual Strong Kids Campaign, Human Resources Business Partner, Shawn Williams contacted Connie with a generous gift of $10,000 dollars from Boston Scientific Corp. The Owen County Y launched the community support campaign on June 1st and received financial gifts from more than 50 people and 20 businesses. “This monetary donation is greatly appreciated and much needed, as requests for financial assistance continue to rise in our community”, commented Connie Kay.

As one of the leading nonprofits for strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, the OCF YMCA depends on financial gifts to do its vital work so that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has an opportunity to receive the support and guidance to learn, grow and thrive. The Y believes that when people have a place to feel welcome, have someone to encourage them, and opportunities to participate in activities that interest them, they are more likely to identify and achieve their personal goals.

“The Y is about moving us all forward and it takes a community that cares to do it,” said Connie Kay. To learn how to join, give or volunteer, contact the Y at 812-828-9622.

What is the Strong Kids Campaign?

The Owen County Family YMCA is launching its 2011 Strong Kids, Strong Families, Strong Community Annual Campaign to financially support individuals and families, so that they can participate in YMCA programs and services. Funds raised directly support the Y’s cause of strengthening communities by nurturing the potential of every youth and teen, improving the nation’s health and well-being and providing opportunities to give back and support neighbors.

Providing financial support is critical to the Y’s goal of ensuring that everyone has access to programs and services that support their individual health and well-being. As an Organization, the support allows the Y to deepen its impact within the community by supporting the programs and activities we provide everyday.
